William Scott (1913-1989): From Life to Art

Enniskillen Castle, Enniskillen, Fermanagh, BT747HL
William Scott painting

About

William Scott and his family moved to his father's hometown of Enniskillen in 1924, 100 years ago. This exhibition illustrates a remarkable story following family tragedy. It provides a fascinating insight into the work of William Scott CBE RA, whose art is celebrated internationally.
Fermanagh County Museum's outstanding public collection of paintings by William Scott is displayed alongside books, objects and documents belonging to the artist. The recently donated Archive, by the Estate of William Scott, will in the future be known as The William Scott Enniskillen Archive. This is an invaluable resource, collected from the beginnings of the artist's career as a young student. It includes William Scott's easels, art materials and palette, to the actual domestic objects – pots and pans and frying pans – represented in his work. From life to art, this exhibition uncovers some of the inspirations behind the finished paintings of William Scott.
