About
County Fermanagh is known for its rich and diverse heritage. Through the Access Inniskillings project, volunteers have uncovered a unique link between the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the sailing traditions of Lough Erne, two important aspects of local culture.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lough Erne played a central role in shaping both daily life and recreational activities in the county. Many Inniskilling men shared these waterways with local boatmen, some of whom would later serve together during wartime.
At this event, the President of the Fairy Class Yachts Association will give a talk on the history of boating on Lough Erne, including the Enniskillen and Lough Erne Yacht Clubs, the Fairy Class yachts, and some of the local sailors.
Following the presentation, guests will have an opportunity to view historical objects related to the talk and explore our digitised collection in the new Reading Room.
Join us for this free event and catch a glimpse into another facet of Fermanagh's past.
