About
An illustrated talk by Dr Bernadette Cunningham on medieval Ulster and the local links to the major international Christian pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Using recent archaeological evidence as well as documentary sources such as the Annals of Ulster and the Annals of the Four Masters, Dr Cunningham recounts the story of pilgrims from west Ulster, focusing mainly on the 15th century.
Dr Bernadette Cunningham was Deputy Librarian at the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin, and a former President of the Group for the Study of Irish Historic Settlement. She is also the author of a book on "Medieval Irish Pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela", published in 2018 by the Four Courts Press.
This talk is part of the Lough Erne Pilgrim Way project, delivered by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with the Lough Erne Landscape Partnership, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Waterways Ireland and the Department for Communities' Historic Environment Division.
