About
Enniskillen native, railway historian, photographer, and preservationist Charles P Friel will take us back to the golden age of rail travel, including the arrival of railways into County Fermanagh and their spread across it, the changes that they brought and how Fermanagh folk - and their livestock - used them. We took the trains service for granted, they shrugged off the threats of the 1930s and they played a vital role in the Second World War only to face newer and bigger threats in peacetime. Their closure on 30 September 1957 brought many changes too - and folk had to either rely on the UTA's buses and lorries or find some way of putting a car on the road.
The talk will be fully illustrated with maps and pictures; indeed many of the pictures have not been seen in public before. Complimentary tea & coffee at the interval. An enjoyable evening for all the family, remembering Fermanagh's Railways which closed on Monday 30th Sept 1957.
Hosted by Headhunters Railway Museum.
